In one paragraph

What local SEO services are

Local SEO services make a business appear in Google when someone in its area searches for what it does: “electrician Geelong”, “physio Parramatta”, “plumber near me”. The website side, which is what SEO Mates does, means a page for each service, real pages for the suburbs you serve, content that answers the questions customers ask, technical health and speed, and links and listings from relevant local sites. Your Google Business Profile completes the picture; it stays yours, and we give you a checklist for it. Plans start at AU$297 a month and follow the size of your city.

Good for: tradies and home services, clinics and allied health, legal and accounting practices, real estate agencies, gyms and studios, cafés and venues, any business with a service area or a front door.

What's included

Everything on the website that moves a local ranking, done properly

No “SEO package” with a mystery list of tasks. This is the work, in plain English, and you see every item in the monthly report.

01

Service pages

One page per service you want to be found for, written around what it costs, what to expect and the questions people ask before they book. Not one “Services” page for everything.

02

Suburb pages, whole city in phases

Real pages for the areas you serve, with local detail, starting where you do most work and where demand is highest. New suburbs every month. Never thin copies with the name swapped.

03

Answer and AI optimisation

Direct answers at the top of each page, FAQs with structured data, plain language: what Google's answer boxes, voice search and AI assistants quote (AEO and GEO).

04

Technical and on-page

Titles, headings, internal links, LocalBusiness and Service schema, mobile speed, Core Web Vitals. The quiet work that makes everything else count.

05

Local links and citations

Your name, address and phone identical across the directories that matter in Australia, plus links from suppliers, associations, local news and industry sites. Earned, never bought in packages.

06

Articles that bring customers

Guides written for the searches your customers make before they need you (“how much does…”, “what to do when…”), each one pointing to the right service page.

07

Google Business Profile checklist

The profile is yours and only you can verify it, so we don't sell managing it. You get a written checklist to set it up right, and if you add us as a manager we review the text for you.

08

Tracking and reporting

Search Console, form tracking and position checks in one monthly report: which suburbs are covered, where you rank, how many enquiries came in. No jargon, no 40-page PDFs.

What Google ranks on

Relevance, distance, prominence: what the website controls

Google says local results are ranked on three things. Relevance: does your page match what was searched? That is service pages, suburb pages and the words on them. Distance: how close you are to the searcher or to the area named in the search; a real page for each suburb is how a website earns distance for areas beyond your front door. Prominence: how well known you are, measured by links, mentions, directory listings and reviews. The website carries most of relevance, half of distance and a good part of prominence. The rest is your Google profile and your reviews, which stay in your hands.

Plans and prices

Priced by the size of your city, because that is what decides the work

Every plan covers your whole city, built in phases: first the suburbs where you do most work and where search demand is highest, then outwards every month. Prices are monthly, “from”, and confirmed in a written quote after the free audit. GST not applicable.

Choosing a local SEO company

Six questions to ask any local SEO company, including us

  1. Will I see the pages you build, before and after? If the answer is a “package” with a task list and no pages, the work is not happening on your site.
  2. Which suburbs are covered this month, and which are next? A plan with dates beats a retainer with vibes. Ours is in every report.
  3. Do you promise a map position? Nobody controls the map pack; it depends on your profile, your reviews and your location. Anyone who guarantees it is guessing. We don't sell it.
  4. Where do the links come from? Ask for the list. Packages of hundreds of links from unknown sites are what gets businesses filtered; the three agencies above us for this search have exactly that in their profiles.
  5. Who owns the website, the content and the accounts? You should. Everything we build is in your name and stays with you if you leave.
  6. What does the report show? Positions by suburb, clicks and enquiries, in plain English. Not “impressions up 400%”.

What we fix most often

Seven website mistakes holding Australian businesses off page one

  1. One “Services” page for everything. Google can't rank a paragraph about hot water for “hot water repair Parramatta”. Each service needs its own page.
  2. Suburb pages that are copies with the name swapped. Google treats them as doorway pages and ignores them, sometimes along with the rest of the site.
  3. Titles that say “Home” or the business name only. The title is the strongest on-page signal; it should say the service and the place.
  4. No answers on the page. Customers (and AI assistants) ask “how much”, “how long”, “what do I do first”. Pages that answer get quoted; pages that don't get skipped.
  5. A website that takes six seconds to load on a phone. Heavy page builders and uncompressed photos. Customers leave, and Core Web Vitals count against you.
  6. Three versions of the phone number online. Old landline on one directory, mobile on another, 1300 number on the site. Google loses confidence in all of them.
  7. No idea where the enquiries come from. Without Search Console and form tracking, you can't tell what works, and neither can the agency you're paying.

Questions about local SEO services

Straight answers

What are local SEO services?

Local SEO services are the work that makes a business appear in Google when someone in its area searches for what it does: searches like “electrician Geelong”, “physio Parramatta” or “plumber near me”. On the website side, that means a page for each service, real pages for the suburbs you serve, content that answers the questions customers ask, technical health and speed, and links and listings from relevant local and industry sites. That website side is what SEO Mates does.

What does your local SEO service include, and what doesn't it?

Included: service pages, suburb and region pages built in phases until your whole city is covered, articles and FAQs written for Google, voice search and AI assistants, titles and schema, speed and technical fixes, local links and directory listings with your name, address and phone consistent everywhere, and a monthly report in plain English. Not included: managing your Google Business Profile, your reviews, or paid ads. You get a checklist for the profile and we point to it from the site; if you add us as a manager we review the text for you.

Do you manage my Google Business Profile?

No. The profile is yours and the verification can only be done by you, so we keep it that way and avoid promising you a map position we don't control. What we do: give you a written checklist to set it up properly (categories, services, hours, service areas, photos), make your business details identical across the directories Google checks, and build the website that supports the profile. If you want us to review the text on the profile, add us as a manager and we will.

How much do local SEO services cost?

From AU$297 a month for a small town (Starter: one service, a few suburb pages, no link campaign), AU$997 for a regional city, AU$1,497 for a capital like Adelaide or Perth and AU$1,997 for Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. The price follows the size and competition of your city, because that is what decides how much work it takes. SEO Mates is not registered for GST, so GST is not applicable. Every plan starts with a free written audit and a quote.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. The monthly fee covers the work in your plan. The only things that can cost extra are agreed in writing before they happen: building a website if you don't have one (see Website design), and the few directories or industry awards that charge a listing fee, which we only suggest when they are worth it. Starter plans have a three-month minimum; the other plans have no minimum term.

How long does local SEO take to work?

Technical fixes and the first service pages are live in the first month. First page-one positions for less competitive suburb searches usually appear within two to three months; a competitive metro trade takes four to six months to show clearly, then keeps compounding as more suburbs are covered. You see the positions, clicks and enquiries in every monthly report, including the months when they are not moving yet.

What does “whole city” mean in practice?

We plan your whole city from day one, then build it in phases: first the suburbs where you already do most of your work and where search demand is highest, then outwards every month. Sydney has more than six hundred suburbs; no business ranks in all of them at once, and anyone who promises that is guessing. The report shows which suburbs are covered, which are next, and where you rank in each.

Can setting service areas affect ranking?

On your website, yes: a real page for each area you serve, with local detail, is what lets Google match you to searches from that area. Pages that are copies with the suburb name swapped do the opposite and can get the whole site filtered. On your Google Business Profile, the service areas you set tell Google where you work; they help you appear across those suburbs but do not replace the website pages. Our checklist covers how to set them.

I have more than one location. How does that work?

Each real location gets its own page, with its own address, hours, team and photos, and its own set of suburb pages around it. We never create pages for locations that don't exist. Multi-location businesses and franchises are quoted separately, because the content and the link work scale with the number of locations.

What happens if I stop?

Everything stays with you: the pages, the content, the listings and the rankings they earned. Positions fade slowly without new content and links, but nothing is switched off, and we hand over the Search Console access and a list of what was done.
